TikTok Updates You Need to Know About

TikTok is rapidly changing; it’s a platform constantly improving itself to empower artists, businesses, and influencers to make more of an impact. Here are the most recent updates and why they should matter to you:

TikTok Messaging Updates

TikTok is making significant changes to its direct messaging. While the platform once had limited messaging capabilities, with messages limited to mutual followers, it has evolved to allow communication between non-followers, as well.

TikTok has also begun directing comments on TikTok stories to your DMs. This allows you to respond to engaged audience members more intimately. It also requires more attention on your part to make sure leads don’t escape your attention. If you can’t keep up with all the comments, consider hiring an assistant.

Long-Form Content Updates

TikTok made a name for itself with short and snappy videos, but it’s now prioritizing long-form content. Videos over one minute, for example, are being monetized, motivating creators to move away from short-form to more lengthy offerings.

TikTok has expanded its recording capabilities, too; it allows users to create videos up to 10 minutes long directly in the app or upload videos up to 30 minutes long. These longer videos must continue to be fast-paced to keep your audience’s attention. People on TikTok are used to videos that are short and sweet, so use your creativity to make your long-form content imaginative enough to hold their interest.

Horizontal Video Updates

TikTok has begun encouraging creators to shoot their videos in a horizontal format, even boosting the visibility of those who oblige. To support this further, TikTok has implemented a “full screen” button to give viewers a more immersive experience.

Image-Based Content Updates

TikTok is also giving image-based content its day in the sun; it’s begun to focus on images alongside its traditional videos. This allows you to create photo carousels that contain up to 10 images (you can add music as well) and feature a full range of your products or services.

To make your image-based content as effective as possible, be sure that your initial photo is attention-grabbing and interesting. Don’t overwhelm your audience; cohesive images with short, engaging text make the most significant impact.
