X, the website formerly known as Twitter, is changing more than its name. It has now launched a way for users to write long-form content with a new feature aptly named Articles. Here’s what you need to know:
How to Use Articles
Articles can be accessed through the article composer featured on the sidebar. Writers can then craft their words via various formatting options (such as bullet points, numbered lists, italics, underlined words, or bold print). The Articles feature also allows users to add images or videos to drive their points further home or attract more readers.
How to Post Articles
Articles are posted similarly to other content. The article appears in the user’s profile under an Articles tab and shows up on their followers’ timeliness just like regular posts. They stand out from other posts through their layout and an identifying icon. This allows users to recognize long-form content and decide if they want to engage or not (as some users may wish to read longer written prose when they’re not in a rush or not secretly surfing social media during a work meeting).
How to Access Articles
Accessing Articles isn’t available to all users; it’s limited to Premium+ subscribers and verified organizations. It’s a feature similar to Instant Articles that Facebook hosted until April of last year, once video became the platform’s focus. X is likely giving the concept another go due to the vision of Elon Musk, who hopes to lure more creators and make X a key source of news and, eventually, a one-stop shop where users can go for almost anything they desire.
